Mojave 250 won't start, checked everything. Maybe?

Okay, here is the situation. I was cruising down the road at about half throttle 5th gear when my motor suddenly kills . Prior to this it was running extremely strong. I pulled in the clutch and downshifted hoping to restart the motor. It rolled to a stop sputtering. I noticed that my gas level was quite low so I turned it on reserve. After about the 3rd kick it fired back up but would not idle or rev correctly. If I tapped the throttle quickly it would rev all the way but only for a second. There was a constant point in the rev line so I held the throttle there to make it home. Once I was home I filled the gas tank up and tried to start it. Nope, wouldn’t start.
So far I've adjusted the valves (again just to be sure), cleaned and set the carb (air screw 1 3/4 turns out and float @ 17mm), tested the ignition coil and magneto, gapped the spark plug which has blue spark and is getting fuel. I attempted to test the CDI unit but couldn't get a reading. My current CDI box is at least 3 years old. The dealer told me that they cannot test them either (even though the manual shows some specs). My last idea is to buy a new CDI for $173 from a friend who works in a Kawi warehouse. Anyone have another thought or advice???????

Dont go buying parts and throwing them at the bike.If you have "a fat blue spark" then I believe that it's safe to assume that the ignition sysyem is working.
I'm thinking that there may be water in the gas tank.Water is heavier than gas so when it got low on gas the water went into the carb.I would drain the carb using the drain on the bottom, drain it with the petcock off.I would then drain the tank through the hose. Then I would stand the bike up on the rear bar and siphon the rest of the gas out of the tank.
Put the bike backdown on all 4.Fill the tank with known fresh gas from a clean can,you could add a little bit of water remover to the gas if you like(you can buy it at any auto parts store). Then kick away.I would also replace the plug just because. If you put a paper inline filter in the gas line it will stop water there, the water is too large to go through most paper filters.
Take 2 asprine and re-post in the morning.

I think you may have a fuel problem. Try removing the petcock and check the mesh filter on it, they often get restricted. If it is, just rip it off, clean out the petcock and add an inline filter in the fuel line to the carb. I have seen this happen to mojaves several times. The screen is restricted just enough to slow the fuel down too much to keep the float bowl full.
I agree with Chris142 that if you are getting a good spark then the CDI and all the ignition parts are working.

Hey thanks guys (and gals if necessary) for the input . I hope to check the fuel line/filter later this evening. It does appear though that the fuel flow is good since the spark-plug it getting wet, but it won't hurt to check.
I forgot to add to my original post that when attepmting to kick it over sometimes it'll backfire after 10 tries or so. Oh, and I'll see if I can get you some pics .
Thanks again......

I placed a quick temporary website up on geocities with a couple pics of my Mojave progress. Hopefully I'll get a chance to upload the most recent pics. Hmmm, green rims or black???? Anyhow, here is the link.....

if you are getting fuel and spark it has got to be absolutly no compression
if there is spark fuel and even a lil compression it should at least fire i am guessing somthin with the fuel as well let us know how it goes and by the way you can check our site at www.geocities.com/spazman_43/bmon
there are pics of me and all of my freinds on there look for me ''tony'' and you will fine my mojave

Finally, found the problem! I have been trying to find the time to tear the top-end apart and Thursday night was it. Anyone who suggested that bad compression was my problem was correct. I hesitated to think it at first because the quad has new valves/piston/rings as of this summer. The compression checked out at 30 psi. Once I pulled the cylinder off I noticed that the compression ring (top ring on piston) was seized flush, all the way around, with the piston. Then I found the oil ring (one down from top) locked to one side off the piston. I assume that it may have overheated or had lack of oil in the piston area, but who knows? Anyhow, I checked the gap specs on the rings and they were okay. So I oiled the rings and put it all together. Now the compression is just above 90 psi.
