Jetting for the Mojave
#1
Hey Everybody,
Just ordered an IDS2 quiet core exhaust for my 2000 Mojave. Does anyone know what the main jets are when they leave the factory (like 135 or something) and what I may need to change to? Just wondering if someone has already done this...
Thanks,

I am assuming that your owner's manual doesn't give you that info so my suggestion would be to pull the present main out & see what size it actually is; then if the bike has been running well with that jet in it, I'd pick up the next two sizes larger, install the larger one of the two when your pipe arrives. Then after you've got it all buttoned up take the quad for a test ride. Run it up to 3/4 to full throttle for at least 1/2 mile or so to see if there is a miss or cutting out. Then, chop the throttle right there with no idling & pull your plug for a plug read.
A black electrode indicates a rich condition so you need to use the next leaner jet that you bought..a brown or tan color indicates the right size jet. The reason you need to go to a fatter jet first & then drop down if necessary is that it is always best to err on the side of rich than lean. Too rich does no damage to the engine, unlike running lean can do.

Thanks everyone for the reply. You are right; stock the mojave has a 132. I called the dealer and he recommended a 135. At the most a 138. Anyway, I told him to pick up both and we will just wait and see. I'll post what happens so that maybe someone can benefit.
