Default v-force shifter slack

I seem to have some slack in my drive selector switch. For instance, to switch from reverse to neutral, I almost need to go all the way up to forward. I brought it to the dealer and he told me that it was normal. I did have the brake depressed while shifting by the way. Fellow owners, is your like this also. Plus, how much did pay for your initial service. thanks for any input

That is not normal. The dealer should be able to adjust the cable slack in the shifter. As for the initial service, since it is all fluid changes ect I did it myself. The manual says check valve clearence after 1 year but my dealer says you should rally do it after about 25-30 hrs to make sure they are seated properly. I will bring it in for that.

Mine is not like that. Shifts very quickly/easily. Paid $67 for initial service, but I had the dealer lighten the rear suspension. @ 162# it was a bit stiff for me initially. Since then I have bottomed it out twice, so I will have to stiffen it a bit now.

The manual describes how to adjust the selector free play quite thoroughly. Takes about 10 minutes.
I'm not going to pay my dealer $100 to take 2 weeks to change my oil and tell me he looked everything over.
I've learned my lesson with all the local dealers. It's way easier for me to learn how to do maintenance and adjustment than have them screw it up and charge me for it $$. Why do most dealers suck so bad?

I've talked to the head mechanic from the shop that I used to ride for and have known for twenty years and he told me the valves won't need any adjustment for at least a year and your cables are easy enough for you to adjust yourself along with your fluid change.
