disaster w/kids chinese atv please help

ok ill try 2 make this as brief as possible..i have a kids bms te125cc chinese atv, just got it friday, ran over the weekend fine, then today had trouble starting, started briefly, then heard clanging of metal coming from inside left engine area, immed. stopped trying 2 start, and decided 2 check oil, looked ok, but decided 2 change it anyway, then for some reason, (relying on service manual) which i should not have done, decided i needed 2 change the transmission/gear oil, which i mistakenly assumed was the big bolt on the left side of atv above the gear shift lever, the one w the big flathead screw on it, when i opened it, it was dry, assuming thats the only place the gear fluid could go, i poured fluid in that hole, now as i read, i dont believe any fluid is suppose 2 go in there, anyway, after realizing now i needed to open this compartment up, when i did i found what i had heard earlier clanging in there, was the coil manget stator, torn up, looked like one of the copper looking coil wires had just exploded, and all the pieces of metal scraped all the magneto rotor up, etc, plus now i have all the gear oil in there that need 2 be cleaned out...i dont know what 2 do at this point, my thoughts are obviously i need to replace the megneto coil and rotor, thats all that looks damaged 2 me but i dont know, could this have damaged something else as well? that i need 2 look at, and further, i obviously need 2 clean the whole compartment out and replace the gasket, could u please tell me what type of cleaner i need to clean out all this gear oil, and any other info about what could have caused the coil to become damaged like this, keep in mind this coil and resulting damage happend before i added any gear oil into the compt. so i know that is not what caused it....confused and frustrated, and irritated w/myself for being so stupid, please help, ihave a 7 yr old who is understanding, but very sad and disappointed and meantime i dont have hundreds of dollars 2 take 2 a shop for repairs, just spent about a thousand on the atv, have 2 do repairs myself, please help, any info on what caused this and how 2 fix would be gratefully appreciated. thankyou jon

That left side opening confuses a lot of people. The engine is a Honda design so you can blame them. I would just clean up the gear oil as best you can and get new parts from the manufacturer. I'm not sure a little oil residue in there will hurt anything.

thanx for reply, what do you think could have caused the magneto coil to break like it did? and also do u recommend any particular type of cleaner/solution to clean this area out?

yes the atv was brand new, was running fine for 1 day, then all this happened, the problem im going 2 have with sending it back, is i know i will go up against resistance to this from the manuf.plus i know they will probable charge me for the s&h, which i dont have the money for, further it took me almost 3 weeks 2 get the thing, it would probably be another 2 months before i actuall got another even if they did send 1, so i dont really think that is an option...thanx

Not sure. I have a similar engine from a Panterra 90 that runs great even after 7 years. Most of the companies that sell these are pretty good about sending out replacement parts on a new unit. They do expect some failures. Brake cleaner might not be a bad suggestion.

The oil is no big deal. You're about the 1 millionth person to put oil in that screw plug hole on the engine cover. BTW, that screw plug comes out so you can see the timing marks on the flywheel.
Use carburetor cleaner like LT80 said. Any autoparts store will have it. It comes in a spray can. It's really flammable so make sure your away from any ignition sources when spraying it on the stator.
So which coil on your stator (magneto) came apart? Was it the small trigger pickup coil on the outside of the flywheel, or was this a coil inside (under) the flywheel?

the magneto coil was one of the six that broke apart, i believe that would be on the outside of the flywheel, because i got the coil off without have to take anything else off...the magneto coil rotor is held on by the flywheel? correct?, the rotor has 2 b changed because there are grooves and marks in it now, and im quite sure that has 2 b smooth, so i plan 2 replace the rotor, do i need some special tool 2 get that off, when i turn it just turns with it, is it a flywheel puller? and do they come in different sizes? anyway i see the parts i need online,i guess im going 2 just order them and try 2 replace the 2 parts, as well as clean and gasket...by taking off the rotor i am getting close 2 the timing chain, etc..is right behind it, do i need 2 be concerned with anything there, will it screw it up by taking the round rotor off n replacing it? thankyou all for your help and suggestions, anything you can give me is sincerely appreciated...jon sorry i dont know how 2 do pics otherwise i would show u, im not very computer savvy either.
