I was wondering, is an Odyssey something to go for? A 350 2-stroke, right? I can get one now which is supposed to be is excellent condition, with many extras and extra parts for $1,500.

That's a steal. The first thing you will want to do is go with Works Performance Shocks.($660 including shipping.) The stockers really STINK, and I mean STINK! They are so stiff they will pound your kidneys out through your back. I own 2 '85 Ody's one is mostly stock, the other is fully modded and the shocks were the best addition I made. The next thing you will want to do is add an additional snorkle tube to the airbox, the single one that comes stock is way to restrictive.

These machines are pretty quick for their size and a blast to ride. They are 15 yrs old and can be high maintanence machines though, depending on how they were taken care of. Let us know how it goes.

Eric.

There is something that keeps me from buying it. No rear suspension. That's right, it it is a 1981 FL250, which didn't come with rear suspension. Is that right? No '81's had rear suspension?

I am not totally sure but I didn`t think any of the 250 odysseys had rear suspension. The 350s all have suspension. If you could find a 350 for that price i would buy it, but i don`t think i would buy anything with no rear suspension, that could make for some rough rides.

the 250s didnt have rear shock. I wouldnt buy a 250. go for the350 or Pilot which is the best and a 400 and can be modded great.

I would definitely hold out for a 350, they were way advanced in comparison to the 250. I owned a 250; they are good for about 15 min. before the lack of suspension becomes a painful reality.

The Honda Pilot (FL400) is definitely the nicest of the 3. It is also the most expensive, nice ones go anywhere from 5500 to 7000. To me the 350's are a happy medium. Reasonably priced fully independent suspension and easily modified into fire breathing dragons.

I have a 1985 350 with a dg pipe, K&N air filter, aluminum front body work that looks really cool, aluminum wheels, holeshot XCT tires andI had 6 KC daylighters mounted inside the roll cage for better visibility. I love mine for playing around my house and racing my friends shifter kart around an oval track. My next upgrade will be works shocks and then rear beadlocks. Maybe some porting and polishing and a bigger carb soon.

RidE if it is a 250 it is not worth $1500. If it is a 350, that is a good deal. I have seen a few go for $3500 lately. Until recently, $2500 was the norm.

The cylinder for my one 350 is currently being ported by Forward Motion Racing. I am installing a 36mm Keihin PJ, Triple E manifold, K&N filter, V-Force Delta 2 Reed System, reed spacer and Works rear shocks. I have two pipes that I have to test which is better after the other mods. I also plan on modifying the upper air box to be a ram air system. The clutch is a Comet 102C. I have 21x7x10 Skat-Trak Mohawks and 25x12x9 Skat-Trak Taller Hauler 10-paddles on 10x5 and 9x9 Douglas Red Labels.

I may switch the 36mm carb over to the other machine that is not ported and go to a 38 or 39.

The Works shocks are $339 without reservoirs from Triple E. MX South can probably get them and would be cheaper.

There is a link at the bottom of my home page (link in my signature) that compares the V-Force reed system to the stock reed cage.
