Can't figure this one out, uphill stalling???
This one has me and my mechanic puzzled. I just installed the Hetrick pipe and clutch kit, Adjustible CDI and K/n on my sons Scrambler. It is tuned and runs absolutely great! Until we start up a hill, then it starts sputtering and has no power. It doesn't happen everytime either and sometimes does happen on flat ground. It seems to happen when running full throttle for a couple of minutes. I have changed fuel filters, completely removed the carb and cleaned it. Removed the float and the jets, couldn't be cleaner inside and out! Took the compressor and blew out the fuel lines. What am I missing??
Any help would be appreciated! |

Can't figure this one out, uphill stalling???
Just had the same problem on my son's Eton 90 as you discribed finally figured it out after 4x when I had the carb off to clean it last week I put the float out of adjustment must have bent the tab and never noticed. now it's readjusted and is as good as ever . Sure wish I would have got it the first time and not 4x later

Could it be a venting problem these have a closed cap? I only noticed this problem after we filled the tank and the less gas in the tank the better it seems. I am wondering if with the much bigger jet it can't fill the bowl fast enough?

Ours has a 120 main jet in it and works great all the way around. Is it backfiring, etc. or is it stalling out? I noticed on Tylers after we first bought it one of the lines was pinched inbetween the gas tank and the frame, but i dont remember what it was doing.

Got it. It was the Z Shield we put on over the K/N. It was putting pressure on the filter and stopping air from getting in the inlet jets. Shaved down the filter on the inside and bent the shield and voila...big power. Thanx for the suggestions!

Can't figure this one out, uphill stalling???
Thought I had it. Still stalling out, still runs put no power. Then turn it around or shut it off and away she goes for a while then the same. I have tried everything me and my mechanic buddy can think of. I have tried what you have suggested so far. Still no luck. It is killing me and my sons xmas is ruined as we were going to go on a riding trip but can't until I fix this. Please help!

i still say that it is the float allowing too much fuel (loading up)(flooding out) on inclines
any excess would also be leaking out the carb bowl vent also.... when you come to a rest while riding is there any odor of gasoline ? does reving the engine help to keep it from sputtering out? to test it in the garage,,,,,,jack the front end of the quad to about a 35 degree angle and leave it there (not running) turn the petcock on (or to prime if vacuum operated) and watch to see if gas is running out your overflow tube This can also be done with the carbs off the bike and in your hand,,,,but a little more work involved did you ask your mechanic about the float level???? |
