carter talon 150cc will not start
this thing will not start. i was driving it and i run over apiece of wood it came up hit the side cover where the engine fan. It busted the cover and tore some teeth off the fan. drove it home parked it. tried starting it just spins over bought a new plug thinking the plug was shorted out. no look took the carb apart thinking it need cleaning it was clean. It is getting gas. i cleaned the fly wheel thinking the crank sensor was not reading it did not help. it does not have enough compression to push your finger off the plug hole. it pops every every time you poor gas in the plug hole and put the plug back in. the electric is does not have current to it. it was hard to start this summer. would that do it. i think it would be nice to drive it again any ideas.

Are you actually getting spark when you test with the plug grounded against the engine? If not, then is it possible that you damaged the magnetic pickup that sits near the flywheel and senses the magnet go by to time the spark? I know you said you cleaned the flywheel.

i took the valve cover and looked at it. the valves are opening and closing the battery is low but i am cranking it with a booster box it turns over good. i am not using the stock plug i went and got another one it is firing blue.i took the plug out put gas in the plug hole it would spin over trying to start. but soon as you gave it gas it would stop trying floor it let off it will back fire. it use to start andrunn only if you kept the ole big toe into it. and if it did stall you could hold your hand over the air inlet and it would eventlly start. but it hardly ever idled. how would adjust the vavles.

Pull the spark plug, flywheel/stator cover and the valve cover. you want the engine to be at TDC (top dead center) After the intake vaves close. Not after the exhaust valves close. Very important. You can spin the engine by grabbing the flywheel and by using a plastic straw in the plug hole you can feel the piston come up to TDC. At TDC you want each valve to be .002 between the valve tip and rovker arm. There should be some type of nut and screw to loosen and or tighten the valve to set it right. You will also need a .002 feeler gauge.

checking tdc on carter 150
If you roll mag by hand with a rachet and socket as soon as the magnet passes the pickup there will be two lines/ marks.
Stop turning when the second line is inline with the first bolt that holds the pickup to the block.
Then pull valve cover and look while facing the cam from left hand side there will be 2 small holes one on each side of the cam and they should line up with the top of the head also a larger hole in gear is straight up in the middle.
