LT80 won't start...not even a "click"
Hello everyone, very long time reader, first time poster here.
My daughter's LT80 was runniing fine this weekend untill they went out to the dunes for a ride and ran it out of gas. Being young, they didn't think to check the tank and kept trying to start it. I figure they killed the battery, so I try to jump it, and I get nothing..not even a click when you push the start button. The battery reads 13 volts and I checked the two 5 amp fuses on top and they're good. Where do I head from here? I read another post where someone said there isn't a solenoid, so you only have a starter and I plan on jumping the battery to that tonight to see if it engages. Does this thing have other fuses or a fuseable link I can't find? Just want somewhere to start before I bite the bullet and take it to a dealer... Thanks everyone in advance, Dave |

Hi Dave,
If I remember correctly, there is a "reset" button under the back fender. If you look at the back of the bike, I think it's on the right side. It's a little square housing the size of a quarter hanging off some wires. There should be a red button encased in clear soft plastic. Press it back in and it should fire. |

DC90, thanks for the help. I checked the button and it's pushed in. I plan on jumping to the starter tonight to see if it works and then go from there. Anyone else have any ideas where to start???

Hi Dave,
Ahh bummer, I thought that would do the trick for ya. Well, if the problem is the starter you can get them off eBay for $60-$70. Just do a search in eBay motors for "LT80" & "LT 80". There's lot's of new and used parts for them there. |

Found it! It was a corroded terminal at the connector for the keyed ignition switch. It just broke off when I removed the connector. Spliced it together and it works fine. Thanks DC90 for the help.
