You could be correct it could be a copy of a yamaha engine of some sort. I talked with a guy who did warranty work on them for a local store. He had nothing good to say about the 400 4x4's. He said some of the Baja products we not too bad. But the 4x4 had troubles, alot of electrical issues and over heating due to an improperly mounted rad. Possibly they've corrected these issues in later production runs of the quad I don't know.

Here in the PacNorthWet, Joe's Sports sells the Baja Wilderness 400 4x4. They have it priced only $500 less than I paid for my Suzuki 08KQ400.
For the $500 difference, I have:
1) an established, reputable manufacturer that stands behind their products.
2) a national dealer, parts, service, & warranty network.
3) incredible after market support for parts & accessories.
4) a quad that is renown for toughness & reliability.
5) a quad that is assembled on the USA (of US & foreign parts).
6) a quad with resale value.
If your are seriously contemplating a purchase of the Baja, at least consider these points before you spend your hard earned $$. Think long term. Then make your choice.

Yeah, I think Joe's is going for impulse, non-researched, sales. I should have kept the Joe's sales flyer, just for jokes.
I really like my KQ400. I went with the auto transmission, as it keeps the engine in the power band at all times--don't have to worry about losing momentum while climbing a dune or plowing snow because you need to downshift.
Granted, everyone should be paying attention and be in the correct gear to begin with, but we all make mistakes, and my "pilot error" problems are, ah, legendary...

Oh yes I heard about Baja 400cc 4x4, I did some research it is made from Hensim joint venture with Jiangshe which is some yamaha representative company but anyhow, I only know there are issues with gas tank as well. New production is better, they got rid of problem. I personally owned 150cc ATV by Hensim which is same equal to Baja and if there is ever any issues I buy parts at partschampion site cuz its cheaper. Good luck

Jianshe makes a 400 4x4 but its different, possibly some parts are souced from them I don't know. I've heard good things regarding that quad. As for Baja yes some of there products are not too bad or no different then any other mic brand. The whole issue of 4x4 mic quads is kind of scary to me. Don't get me wrong we like our small kids Mic quads and some are a good value. However when your forking out up to 5 to 7 thousand for a 500 to 700cc unproven mic big bore 4x4 quad....that's a whole new ball game.

I have owned a Baja 250 and paid only 1799 after a rebates and such rode it for 5 months I liked the quad but lots of little stuff was going bad so I quickly sold it and got 1600 back, added 1900 and bought a good used kfx 400 .The Baja 400 are way overpriced at Joes You will be soooooo much better off to buy a used jap quad over chinese every body told me the same thing but I had to learn on my own

Yes small Mic kids quads- cheap, simple in design etc. is probably not too bad. I'm happy with the Value of our Jetmoto 150 and the Baja 90 we had. The 110cc ducar quad......not so much as that was a poor choice on my part. Live and learn as you say.
A large complicated machine like a MIC 4x4 quad with front and rear independented suspension, gear boxes, cv shafts etc. that will be driven hard.....is asking for trouble! To top it off if they price them too high!!! As you can buy entry level jap. 4x4 quads for the same money!
