new battery for 110 chinese quad

want to purchase a new battery for my sons chinese 110cc atv. Can I just pick one up at the local wal-mart or is it it some special battery? It looks like an atv or lawnmower battery should work fine.

Thanks,

William

Measure your battery compartment. Then buy any walmart battery that will fit.

After you charge up your new battery, be sure to check the quad charging system to make sure it is working. With engine running at a fast speed and lights off, measure the battery voltage at the battery terminals. It should read 13.5 to 14.5 volts.

thanks for the info. do the quads charge the battery when running? With a car you have an alternator what does the ATV use? I always find myslef plugging in the battery to the charger plug in on the front of the quad.

Thanks,

William

Yes, the battery is recharged when the engine is running. The power comes from the stator which works very similar to the alternator on a car. Both systems generate an AC voltage by spinning coils of wire and a magnetic field past each other. The AC voltage is rectified into DC using diodes, then the voltage is regulated to 13.5 to 14.5 volts DC and applied to the battery. For lead acid batteries making this voltage and applying it to the battery is all that is needed to keep it charged up.

On a quad the magnetic field comes from permanent magnets embedded in the flywheel. When the engine is running the whizzing magnets spin past a stationary battery charge windng(s) inside the flywheel. The AC voltage that is generated is rectified and regulated by the voltage regulator and applied to the battery.

I just went to wal mart with my battery and matched up the size. I thought I was going to save money at wally world but it still cost me $60. Dont forget to take your old one with you or you'll have to pay a core fee too.

Man your messing with the carb to much for what its worth. Google vmc chinese parts. Carbs are like $10 and dont forget gaskets. Was dealing with same problem with float. Too carb apart and cleaned jets. Put all back together and bowl kept overflowing. Said screw it and bought a carb and installed a fuel shut off. Started itntoday for the first time in probably 5 months and needed a little help starting by spray but now starts up fine

Seven year old post.
Point one, those cheap Chinese carbs were not as common then.
Point two, there are dozens of posts on here from people who bought one and had to mess with jet sizes to get it to run. You were lucky.
