LT80 Brake adjustment can't get it to work properly
I am trying to adjust the brakes on the LT80 and one side I'm able to adjust with no problem. The other side (right side) I can't get it. It's either at the very end of the adjustment at the wheel and handlebar or if I move the 'Arm' on the Cam it is to Short and bottoms out on the threads of the adjuster. I installed new cables because I thought they were stretched but have the same problem.
It seems like the Cam doesn't have the 'slots' for the arm in the proper spot for the proper setting. I have one on order but if anyone else has any idea that would be great. Thanks |
Something is being overlooked. With new cables, there should be nothing stopping proper adjustment.
Proper routing on cables is important. Is one binding? Are the cams you mention lubricated and are the brakes returning it to flat with the shoes? |
take the arm off and move it a spline or two on the shaft. if there is enough room with the rim that is
|
I moved it a spline forward and a spline back. Moving a spline forward caused the arm to be to far away from the spring on the cable and wasn't able to fully 'push' the arm back to its 'at rest position'. Moving it back caused it to 'crush' the spring and run out of adjustment and I believe there was way to much cable at the Brake Lever (If I am remembering correctly).
I checked the cable routing nothing seems to be binding. I took the cam out and cleaned/lubed it. They appear to be functioning properly. It seems as though I keep missing the spline I want since I need it to be in-between where I'm currently able to adjust it to. When I bought the atv 'used' the adjustment nut at the wheel was way down at the bottom of the adjuster. This was the same problem with the Stock cables so I don't think it's a cable problem. The spline couldn't be upside down, could it? Thanks for the suggestions I will probably look at it again tonight. Otherwise I will wait for the new 'Cam'/Spline to come in should be on Thursday. If that doesn't work then I'll just deal with it. Thanks Again. |
i would compare the lever arm on the good side to the bad side, maybe it somehow got bent from a stick or rock jamming in the rim, have you inspected the actual brake pads and springs?
