50cc Resistor - Old Polaris Tech??
I recently picked up an older 2000 Eton 50cc atv. It runs pretty good but i noticed the resistors get burning hot on it. (2 white block looking things) Is this normal? I thought i saw a comment from Old Polaris Tech in a thread where he said it was. Wont it burn the plastics? Can they catch on fire? What do they do? thanks for any insight!
Old Polaris Tech if you could chime in?? You have been very helpful in the past to me in threads on this site. |
Every one I've ever seen does get hot.Never had any problems with them though.

Hi Guys,
Reviving this thread as I have the same questions. What are the resistors in there for? Is it protecting the battery from charging too fast? There are no lights on these bikes so I don't know what other purpose it would have. Thanks in advance, Mark |

It reduces the amount of current going back into the battery to save them. Otherwise the charging system would cook the battery.
