2003 kfx 50

Well my son's 2003 KFX 50 just quit on us, when i tried to start it back up if sputtered and died and now wont restart, i have good spark from the plug and the carb is not clogged, but i don`t seem to be getting any fuel to the combustion chamber (plug stays dry), if i pour fuel into the combustion chamber it will sputter but never actually start and again when i pull the plug back out it is dry. if i pull the carb off and plug the intake with my finger should i be feeling any kind of suction because i'm not getting anything?

I'd do a compression test. Might be time to freshen the top end.

Yeah...if no "pull" from the motor at intake then sounds like compression issue...you can also put your thumb over the plug hole...it should pop off when cranked...
if not definitely compression issue...

Compression checked

OK so I am sitting in my garage and I just checked the compression and it's at 80 psi ..... I know it's low but shouldn't the atv still try to start if I put fuel directly in the cylinder ? And with a bit of oil in the cylinder I get about 90 psi ......

DirtDevil101 05-05-2017 08:23 AM

It generally takes 90+ to fire...it's low and needs a refresh...

ditto

Update

Well got the cylinder bored out .... it was already first o/s so got it opened up to second o/s , new piston , rings and seals and compression still at 80 psi 😢. Any suggestions on what could be causing my issue ? Thanks again for the help guys !

Check the reed?
Maybe the rings need to seat.
What brand of piston did you use?

Used a wiseco piston ..... and I found my problem it was the crank seal on the flywheel side that was popped out. Thing runs like a charm now!
