Eton rascal 40 new clutch but still very hard to get moving.

I just bought a Eton rascal 40 for the kids. I replaced the clutch because it would bog down and barely start to roll at wide open throttle. With a new clutch it revs higher for taking off but the clutch just slips and it hardly moves until it slowly gains speed. This is wiyh my 3year old on it that can't even reach the running boards.what am i missing. There is nothing dragging it rolls free. I did not replace the clutch drum but with the shape the original clutch shoes were in i thought i had it fixed with just new shoes. Any help or advice. I have seen youtube videos and the look like they take off alot better and maintain power up small grades instead of the clutch slipping like mine. Any idea what to do please advise.

Sounds like something is still wrong, either you do need a new drum, or you got faulty shoes, or you assembled it wrong. Other possibility is wrong oil if it is a "wet clutch." Has to be an oil suitable for wet clutches if it runs in oil.

It's pretty easy to replace and inspect. I even ran the bike without the trans/gear box and drum in place to make sure the clutch was functioning correctly. Drum is in great condition and i can not feel a wear line were the clutch has worn in. Original clutch was 75% worn.

Did you take some emery cloth and clean the drum contact surface?

I found a spec for the drum service limit. If it is within spec roughing up the drum surface was my next step.

Never had an Eton 40 clutch apart but centrifugals usually work fine until the lining wears through to the steel backing so, if 25% of the old lining was left, I don't think this was the problem in the first place. Could be a glazed drum & linings, but something else slipping or brakes sticking on are alternatives, does it roll OK if you push it?

Update... tore it apart again and found only wear on one shoe. Removed the pivot bolts and found a bur on one that was restricting the shoe from opening. It was from tightening the pivot bolt down. They have a shoulder that is piss poor machined and the edge rolled over when tightened.
