Redcat 70cc

I just recently purchased a Redcat 70cc off of a friend. When I start it up and give it gas, at first it goes nowhere. you hear the engine increase in RPM's and it acts like it was to lunge forward but it doesnot move. you have to Fred Flinstone the atv for it to move. Once it is moving it seems to operate as expected. But I don't have an extremely long driveway to see if it go thru all the gears.

What could be the cause of it not wanting to move from a stop without foot power?

Thanks
Gary

If the bike rolls easily when you push it, i.e, brakes are not sticking on, a clutch is probably slipping. I'm not familiar with those little Honda clones, but expect a centrifugal clutch and a conventional motorcycle clutch. One of them will be slipping. The conventional clutch will have an adjuster. Trouble is Honda themselves used several different clutch set ups for those engines, may be best to get the instruction book for your machine to find out how to adjust it, or fix it if a clutch needs changing.

Resolved slipping clutch

on the right side, there were two screws holding on the “redcat” side plate. After removing this plate, it exposed the automatic clutch adjustment

Without Redcat right side cover. It exposes the clutch adjustment

i followed the following link on YouTube to adjust the clutch. Once I did this, the atv rolls no problem
