Ok,I was reading the april issue of 4-wheel atvaction 2day when I started reading the review for the speed 440. I was looking at its transmission shifting pattern, when it caught my eye........it read this *1-N-2-3-4-5* Whats wrong with this picture. THE NEUTRAL IS BEFORE THE 2nd GEAR! Now assuming the cannibal is the same way. Is it? Does this mean to just start out from 2nd gear for everything? Does the cannibal have a little light that shows u when ur in neutral?
HELPPPPPP Icav |
icav,
ALL sport quads with a manual clutch have that shifting pattern. Some are 5 speeds and some are 6 speeds, but all have Neutral between first and second gear. |
that uis the way about 99% of maual quads gear box is set up
|
So pretty much I just start out in second?? DAMN,i feel stupid right now.
|
no, you start out in first and shift up through neutral into second. it's really not that hard to get used to.
|
Does it have that cool little light that tells u ur in neutral?
Icav |
No. There is no light.
Don't feel stupid. I felt the same way when I was a kid and rode the grandaddy of all the sport ATVs for the first time. The 1981 Honda ATC250R...LOL There really is no need for Neutral on a sport quad. Neutral is very hard to find when shifting. It's like that so that when you are racing, you wont accidently hit Neutral. [Although it will still happen time to time] When you first start off, you just click DOWN into first. When you change into second, you just pull UP. Unless you were barely pulling, it will go into second. If you "nudged" it, then it will go into Neutral. It's not a biggy. It comes second nature after a short while. |
Neutral is a "half shift" between 1st and 2nd gear. That set up is MUCH better, especially in racing, because you don't need neutral unless you are sitting still. So having neutral between 1 and 2 gear keeps you from accidently hitting neutral when you are riding (most of the time). Lets say you are coming into a sharp corner that you have to take in 1st gear... well than you can just shift down all the way until it won't shift anymore and you'll be in 1st as opposed to "N" on auto shift quads and when you come out of the corner, just shift up like you normally would and you will hit 2nd. Sometimes you will accidently hit neutral but not very often.

for that i don't think you are ready for a cdale. do you know how to use a clutch?
