First impressions and a few questions

The big bolt you describe sounds like the transmission drain bolt. The check window or check bolt is on the left side of the engine. If equipped with a check bolt, it is small.
My brakes are also very strong and engage when the lever is touched - I'd bleed them if yours don't seem responsive.

This bolt is the same size round as the trans drain but it is recessed, totally flush with the case. It has an allen head in it. It is right behind the shifter. I will snap a picture after work and post it somewhere so you can get a better look.

My trans. oil check bolt kept falling out and I replaced it w/ a plug that my dad helped me make so now I can just pop the plug out when I need to and it stays in MUCH better. Be careful that you don't break that little bolt. I don't have the little sight window either... sure would be nice.
Oh, and make sure you check for loose bolts. I didn't have any problems w/ it until a month or so after I got it.
Bolts that I have loosened on me:
1. Grab bar bolts
2. Sprocket
3. Axle nut
4. Trans. oil check bolt
5. Bottom bolt of case saver (but that was my fault )
Thats all I have had problems with, but be sure to go ahead and check it all out. Better safe than Corndog... uh... I mean sorry... better safe than SORRY.

Well it turns out my case was machined for a window and got a piece of aluminum fitted in there with a small allen screw. The screw has a tapered head like a lug nut so it can bite into the seat that is also tapered. I only got .78 of a quart of the new gear lube to fit in there and spec is .85 I guess it is almost impossible to get all the oil out. I am now waiting for the engine oil to drain man does it take its sweet time. The oil that is in there does not look like any oil I have used before, is there some specific break in oil or something that it comes shipped with? I am really eager to get the Mobil 1 engine oil in there, it has helped every engine I have to run smother and quieter. Well back to the garage.

Well I got it done. I ended up using Amsoil 0-40 4 stroke full synthetic oil because the mobil 1 didnt meet specs in the book. Had to buy a microtorq wrench for all the aluminum fasteners (nothing worse than stripping aluminum). I have Speed # 339 I guess mine was sitting at cannondale a little bit longer than yours. Chain slack is now at 1.6 and it is a ton better. Whoever invented the chain adjustment procedure should talk to the oil change guy and share ideas. Chain adjustment 5 minutes how easy! Anyone got a secret to get all 1.7 qts of oil out? I could only get about 1.35 or so, I guess the old paper filter had a bit soaked in it. Anyway thanks for all the help and info.
