Cannondales in the sand.

How do those things do in the sand?
I have yet to try one out, but I would really like to!
What is a (realistic) figure for rear wheel H.P. on one of these?
I am partial to 2-strokes for the sand, but am curious about the new 4-strokes none the less!

Last weekend it rained hard at the dunes here. My Dale was bogging a bit in the certain areas, cause the sand was so damn heavy. It has the same power as my modded Raptor used to except the Dale revs waaaay better and handles like a Honda. This weekend will be different as the sand will be dry. The Z's will be there too...

I drag race alot at Little Sahara in Oklahoma, the C'dales do extremely well in the sand. HP is going to range from around 33 on the Cannibal's and Speed to around 39 for the Moto and Blaze. The neat thing is you can download the Moto or Blaze map into the Cannibal's computer and slip on an aftermarket exhaust such as the HMF, and now you've got the same HP. Cannondale also has great customer service as well.

Well rode my speed for the first time in the sand on saturday and man was it fun! I have rode ex's, R's, and banshees in the sand and I had just as much fun on my dale. You could pull any hill in one gear, it just revs so good. Its a blast to ride!

Dynojet numbers on the Cannibal have it up in the 37-39HP range. The only other Dyno-jet reading I've seen is one with the Big Gun exhuast and Moto mapping. It was up to 51.1hp.
SandGod and Buddah both have some real good seat time in the sand to give you some opinions.

2fun, I've ridden two of the guys' cannibals from the Oregon Rider's group in the sand. The cannibal does pretty well in the sand. It's definitely fast. The front end feels really twitchy compared to my 400ex. It was really hard to steer, but that's probably due to the front tires, and the stock handlebar bend. One of the guys had his computer remapped to I think the "blaze" mapping. It was ALOT faster than the stock cannibal mapping. I rode it up the first bowl at Sand Lake doing a wheelie in 3rd and 4th gear. So, that was pretty impressive. It sounds like you're riding on a 2-stroke, and it is pretty loud (the motor, not exhaust), but all in all...it's a really great machine.

in dirt wheels hi-per shootout the cannibal rated low in dunes and desert...
whats up with that?
hi-revving...great handling...great suspension...i dont get it?how could it rate so low?

chad400ex - I find your comments on the steering interesting...
I own both a heavily modified 400EX as well as a new Cannibal. I find that the CD's steering is MUCH lighter than my 400EX's steering - in fact, my wife loves the CD because of it's light steering.
Neither quad feels twitchy, except the 400EX at higher speeds. The CD does get some feedback thru the bars due to the stock front wheel offset. I installed my 400EX front wheel/tire combo and it was a large improvement - far less feedback on the trail.
As far as front end measurements go, the CD has better stats everywhere I've measured the two. Things like lower control arm pivot to lower control arm pivot, front wheel mounting surface to ball joint center, etc... All in all, the CD is an impressive machine - can't wait to put a decent exhaust on it and install either the Moto or Blaze mapping....
I can't imagine DW rating the CD low in the sand - I had a blast on mine last time I was out there - it climbed well, jumped well, went thru the whoops predictably (no rear swapping) and put on a really good showing at the sand drags for a bone stock quad, outrunning all other stock quads it was against as well as many of even the piped Raptors, DS650s, and Banshees. Due to it's 2 stroke like fast, high revving HP, I'd tend to think it's the best dune 4 stroke available.

Hey 2fun
I am eventually, going to get down there to visit you, and get the southern tour.(soon) You can ride mine then. When CHad rode mine, it was with my itp holeshots.(with too much air) THe front suspension set stiff.
I now have softened up the front suspension a bit and gotten Kenda geckos/ and dune trackers on the front. Should be a lot more stable in the steering now.
He felt like the other machine he rode was twitching in front end cause Cannonmans is HOT> HOT> HOT>. and he couldn't keep the front end on the ground. heheee.
