Hey guys, who has something good to say about their Kick @-- Cannondale today?

KNOWSALOT Jun 12, 2002 11:15 PM

Well,

Mine is sitting on one flat front tire right now.

I ordered a set of ITP .190 "Edge" wheels today and hope to have the 'Dale back in commision by the middle of next week....I'll haul some @-- then.

I do! I do! I just got my LSR axle via UPS today from K&K ATV. I ordered it from them on Monday noon and had it today at noon, that is great service! I put my front end back together today and will put the axle in tomorrow. It has been 2 weeks since I rode the Speed and I am missing it. The great thing about our Cannondales is that even up on a stand with no axle, a-arms or plastic it is still a work of art to look at, then add to that the performance and you can't help but smile........JIM

Well nothing on the C'dale but I did just get back from Wichita after going to Hiper's headquarters to pick up some of their carbon fiber beadlocks. Man are these things sweet!! They are almost too pretty to use, thought about hanging them on the wall!! If anyone is in the market for beadlocks, I would highly recommend these! They don't bend like the steel or aluminum rims, plus they are modular, if you break something, the most expensive part is $40 to replace.

Oh....I have one more thing to say.....

I got the info on the 2003 Cannondales and posted it in the "Info on 2003 Cannondales" topic if any of you are interested. I plan to actually bring the materials home with me tomorrow with all the stats and post them as well.

brian how much are the carbon fiber beadlocks? Do you ever worry about cracking with composit materials?

haulin Jun 13, 2002 12:16 PM

Brian, I've been working with composites for six years now and I know how strong a compostite structure can be, but usually the lay-up of the composite is only strong in two directions. (pushing and pulling) Composite lay-up does not hold up well to sharp punches at all. From my experience, if an object comes in contact with the structure sharply or abruptly it will delam the material. How is it that these bead locks resist that type of abuse? I'm sure they are designed to take the abuse, but I don't understand how they are designed to do that. Could you please give some insight to us? Thanks, Jared

The Hipers aren't carbon fiber in the sense that they are made out of CF "fabric" in a lay-up manner that has the grain that looks so cool. What they are is a plastic with carbon fibers mixed in to re-inforce the plastic. Think of a cookie with coconut shavings mixed in the dough before its baked. That's why they don't look like CF and why they do work so well in this type of application.
