Drug Rights

I'm curious as to what everyone's opinions are on drug rights. That is to say, the rights of individuals to put in their bodies what they please.

Should Americans be allowed to use drugs such as Marijuana, LSD, LSA, DMT, Psilocybin, Heroin, Methamphetamine, Mescaline... All those sorts of currently illegal drugs?

I don't think so. Maybe pot should be legal but not the rest.

Maybe I'm a hypocrite but i dont view pot as a drug, no more so than alcohol.
The rest should be illegal.

Lets not to forget to add krokodil to the list. Its a synthetic opiet.

If you think drugs should be legal watch this.

If you think these drugs should be illegal dont watch it.

Well I don't believe making any of those drugs illegal will really curb their use. Most drugs aren't nearly as dangerous as Krokodil. Most people who take Heroin, and similar opiates are not really concerned with what the law says, they're going to take the drug anyway. Most people wouldn't take heroin though, due to its addictive nature. So really the law serves no purpose.

I think that making drugs illegal alienates people with real drug problems, and makes it difficult for those responsible users to enjoy their drugs. Yes, I do believe that when hallucinogens are concerned, there is such a thing as responsible drug use.

I know a lot more people who have ended up in the hospital from Alcohol consumption than have from LSD, MDMA, Cocaine, or Psilocybin... and obviously Marijuana. I'm glad we can agree on Marijuana.

Load your family in the car, go out and hit highway speeds, then think of every other car around you being driven by someone under the influence of a drug.

Oh sure, we can make it illegal to drive on drugs. It's working so well with alcohol.

Geeze, I was thinking this was a porno of some kind with that still shot.

Keep them illegal.

I also saw how useless my friends were who smoked pot all the time. Doesn't really help you to get ahead in life when you're stoned all the time.

There's two issues here that need to be considered... #1- the right for a person to treat his / her body anyway they want to. #2 - public safety and directly effecting the health & safety of another man, woman, child or animal.

You can actually come at this with almost an "FCC" point of view regarding their regulation on interference with "personal electronic devices." (stick with me here...;) )

FCC: This device must not cause harmful interference and; this device must accept any interference received including interference that may cause undesired results.

translated into drug use context:

you want to put poison into your body while in the privacy of your home? Then you must not have any dependents who's safety and well-being depends solely on you.
If by poisoning your body directly effects the safety & well-being of another person or animal while exercising said right in the privacy of your home or in public, then you will be held accountable for violation of said law and will be sanctioned accordingly.

I could care less what anyone does to their body- live & let live. But, as soon as it causes undesirable effects to another person, public or private- it must be stopped.

I have friends (some close with whom I have a great respect for) who smoke pot- and they are as productive and professional (and successful) as anyone else. I also have known some people who are into drugs (including pot) who are in their 30's & 40's and still live in their childhood bedroom and can't hold down a simple part time job.

I saw a lot of this stuff especially during the many years I worked for the Dept of Youth Services and was a community tracker, going to just-released inmates houses and writing reports on their progress.

..... but, seeing as most druggies don't follow laws and end up killing many innocent people, it's easier to just outlaw drugs.

Moose, the same logic can be applied to alcohol. I have seen drunks do far worse than potheads...

Beergut, I generally agree, but if your primary concern is hurting others, alcohol and cigarettes should be illegal. I have a lot of friends who have taken a number of hallucinogens, of them, none have become violent in any way. Not saying it cant happen, but from my experience alcohol is by no means safe, and yet perfectly legal.
