Computer crashes more than I do
#1
Microsoft update makes my computer crash, again. Sitting at the computer Thursday night, surfing along (no **** sites) and my automatic update starts it's download. Thinking I've got no problems (I just ran a spyware check about 2 hours before) because I'm at my usual sites (here mostly) and it prompts me to restart. After I do that **** hits the fan. It tells me I am missing some dll files and is starting in a mode I've never seen. Not the safe mode, that would have been to simple. This mode says any information will not be saved. Great, can't load any fixes, it won't save them for the next start up. Try it anyway, sure enough, it didn't save. Had to reimage the computer. Not bad enough that it takes about 4 hours, now I've got to re install everything. I don't know if it's Microsoft or HP (my computer brand) or both. I've had to do this more times than I can count. I have learned to back up all my pictures but I just downloaded some music and lost it. I did manage to burn it to a cd, but just barely. Now I'm posting from the wonderful world of Firefox. Still need to get some antivirus protection, but obviously Norton ain't cuttin' it. I know there are several brands you can download, would be interested in hearing the good and bad of some. I do know when I get a new computer, I'll be looking real hard at Apple. Whew! Feel better now, maybe I won't shoot the computer now.

Sounds like a virus, try using another virus scan such as SpyBot. It is a free download.

Finally got everything loaded back on the computer. I was using norton, microsoft beta 1 virus scanner, plus the virus scanner from yahoo. Leaning more towards a faulty hard drive, had it replaced once before. Really looking forward to getting a new computer sometime next year. The old one is going to make a fine target. Well, time to stretch a condom over the computer and search the ****, I mean human behavior websites.

From what I have observed, HP makes a nice computor except the ones bought from Wal-Mart. Remanufactured or whatever the problem is....I have noticed many people having problems with them. I purchased one from Wal-Mart for the wife a couple years ago and have had nothing but troubles with it. I have to reload everything every couple of months.

That sounds like mine, except mine came from Fry's. Guess they both use the same supply chain. Wouldn't be so annoying, but it takes five minutes to wipe everything out, and two days to put it all back.

Mine crashed while doing a Microsoft update also.. I had to put in the "restore disk" This is after I spent 40 bucks for Compacts worthless help. Qwest helped me out bigtime. If your in the market for a new computer try www.newegg.com or www.tigerdirect.com.. I just bought a new one from tigerdirect. Just got it today and haven't hooked it up yet. Just a tower. I don't need a new keyboard and monitor like the stores want to sell you w/ there new computers..After going to the store and seeing all the BS rebates those stores lost my business.. I want a computer for one price not all the BS involved w/ rebates which are a hassle and some don't even send the rebates..
