Whats you'r opinon on these dirtbikes cr125/tm125

I'am thinking of buying a dirtbike and I might be going to look at a tm125 or a cr125 I was wondering which of the two would be a better bike. BTW this is my first bike, but I know after a while I'll want more power. Any other bikes which might be better?

Well what are you wanting it for? Racing, trails, etc. If you are racing in the 125 class I would recommend a 250 fourstroke. Even tho I prefer 2-strokes, the thumpers have an advantage in that particular class.

As for what brand, Im not sure what to tell you since your from Ireland and Im not positive what the tm125 is, I think it is a Husky? Im a big believer in the 4 jap brands and KTM, I think they are the most up to date.

I would be just using it for messin around til I get used to a bike. I would be ridin in fairly rough ground, no jumping as such. I'm not sure about the make of the tm but I've heard good things about them. Maybe I should just stick with a cr/rm/kx/yx some well know name,

I would stay away from the TM,I think it would be hard to find parts. If you want a 2stroke dirtbike to mess around on I think a 250 would be better. You can lug a 250 around alot easier and its not so hard to get power out of them,on a 125 you always have to be in the powerband or it will have no power. My CR250 has awesome lowend power it just dosent really like being in the lower rpms. The 250s you can relax more and imho are better for trails.

Just my 0.02

The TM is a TM, M26. That is the brand not the model. \

How is parts availability on a TM in Ireland ?

Not sure about parts availability, but I seen one race prepared, with ohlins,k&n etc. the tm seem to be quite popular here. I wasn't sure if I would be able for a 250 the way i hear people talkin about the 125's the 250 would be monsters. I'm no midget i'm 6foot1 and a heavy build.

The Cr's are probably the most reliable bike on the market, i have one and i love it. But the 2 strokes are becoming the way of the past. The four strokes are more reliable, have more torque and you dont have to stay on the pipe all the time. My buddy has one and it makes my 125 seem like an 80. The only thing is that they are expensive and the good four stroke technology is fairly new, so you would have to buy a new one or something close to it, and if you are planning to out grow it fairly soon, it would kind of be a waste of money.

As for the TM, i am not too familar with it so i dont know the specs. Probably like cannondale quads, very good and come with a lot of aftermarket quads but hard to find parts for it. so that seems a little ify to me. Just my opinion.

But if you dont mind having a 2 stroke you might possibly want to look in to the KTM 125 or 200. The 125 is very powerful (my brother has one) and is quite nimble. It comes with renthal bars (the newer years), excel rims, nice pipe, and might even come with V-force reeds (not sure). Very good bike and very reliable.

Good Luck with your Desicion!

Dont be afraid of the power, the 250s are easier to ride due to there more mellow powerband. On a 125 the powerband hits HARD an will throw you off the back if your not carefull,a 250 just starts accelirating with almost no powerband hit, they are still very powerfull bikes though and you have to respect them. Imho they are MUCH easier to ride though. Im only 14 and I went straight from an XR250 to a CR250 and it was my first 2stroke also,I think you would be fine on a 250 esspeccialy since you already have a zilla.

I've no probs with two stokes and I was guessing since I can handel my zilla I shold take to a bike ok. I road a small road bike once and took to it alright. I think I'll be leaning more towards a 250. I like the cr's and the ktm's but ktm's are hard to come by here. The cr's yz's and rm's seem to be the most popular here in Ireland

i just bought mine almost 2 months ago and i decided to get a 125 cause well i never had a dirtbike before (kicking myself in the butt now i didn't get one years ago) the 125's do kick in hard on the powerband when they do but they are lighter then the 250 is what i liked for starting out. and well one advantage of the 2 stroke over the 4 stroke is the sound i love the sound of a 2 stroke. and well i am putting mine in the paper this weekend for sale found out today mine just sprang it's 5th oil leak and it has been just continuously worked on non stop i gotta rip the carb off of it tomorrow and clean that (just basic maintanance for the carb they do get dirty) but other then the continual problems i have had with it i have had alot of fun. just make sure you wear all the safety equipment cause when you biff it you will be glad you did. oh and for what it's worth i am looking at a yz but would buy a suzuki kawi or honda as well. gonna go back to the 125 for about a year.
