I have a 300ex, There is a wire harness under the gas tank. In the wire harness I had a short (one of the conections are black) I need a quick (cheap) fix. i am debating cutting out the harness and even splicing them together with wire nut or using the rubber boots with a male/female connectors.
Question: All the wire harness serves is an easy way to assemble the wires in the frame.. The harness itself doesn't do anything special correct ????

If you do decide to cut and splice your harness I HIGHLY recommend you use shrink tube over the splice. This will ensure the splice remains dry and free of dirt,salt etc. Shrink tube is cheap.easy to use and much more effective then wire nuts,connectors in protecting a splice. I've used it for years on farm wagons,trucks etc and its yet to fail me .

go to radio shack and pick up a cheep soldering iron and heatshrink tubing
all could not cost more than 15 bucks. solder the wire together stronger
than original and moisture will not bother it use the heat shring tubing
for good measure.

Thanks for the tips guys.. I used a male/female connector with di-electric grease and a protective boot over all th econnections.. Looks pretty good and is protected pretty good I must say..
