Just bought a new ATV and would like to hear what everyone has to say about breaking in new engines and how long to go before changing the oil/filter. I think the manual says 100 miles but that seems like letting it go to long to me. Any suggestions?

 

I did my first oil change after 10 hours of riding. After that I change it about every 20 to 30 hours.

 

It all depends on what your quad suggests....my pred I changed after the first hour and then every 10 hrs after......our sportsman I think we changed after 10 hrs......and then every 20 after....as for breaking in the new engine, I like to break them in nicely, and not go over half throttle...For the first tank of gas keep it under half, and the next tank you can speed it up, but don't keep it hammered for long periods......when breaking in, change the throttle position frequently.

I second the mototune method. Tested it out on 2 stock raptors, mine was always faster, even with swapped riders.

 

I third that!!! Never had a problem. Just warm it up first.
