Default 450r exhaust issue

on the new 450r, the HRC kit gives you a new endcap for the exhaust, you remove the stock spark arrestor, and get a new airbox lid and bigger jet, along with the new cam. well could i save myself some money by cutting a hole in the stock airbox lid, taking out the stock spark arrestor, and jus welding a screen onto the stock endcap. that way i'd jus have to buy a jet kit, or even jus a new needle or whatever i would need. would this work? any thoughts, opinions, or experiences would be great, thanx.

My HRC kit was dealer installed when I bought the bike so I am not sure, but I don't think removing the restrictor, removes the spark arrestor. I think the screen is BEHIND the restrictor, and just stays in there. Good, because an arrestor is something you don't want to be without, here in Calif. The exhaust is still fairly quiet without the restrictor, and I think it will easily make the 96 decibel rule.

I went with the HRC kit, because it has some other goodies, that everybody claiming to go cheap, seems to ignore. The Honda vented airbox lid is SUPERB! It really keeps the airbox very clean, even in dusty desert conditions (like So. Calif.). It also includes larger vents for the cranckase, and jets (both slow and main), and a different needle. I think it is worth going with the kit, rather than playing around with the jetting yourself!

(They list a spark arrestor as one of the parts, but I think it is only a bigger end cap.)

The spark arrector is on the new ened cap. If you remove the silencer core you removes the OE arrestor. I belive the jetting is the kit are for the HRC cam. If you skip the cam you may need different jets.
