Street Cycle Engines in ATV Frames
hey i just bought a 660 frame and plan on the streetbike motor conversion. I'm tired of the 1500 motor mods and still slow. I've look at GSXR-1000 and looking at a BUSA Friday. I'm more scared of the motor conversion than any 80 footer done on my 450. (Any help is great)

Just do your homework and look into Horsepower compaired to weight ratio! This is very important becuse thats why the BIG 1500cc motors are still slow they weight a ton! If i remember the R1 motor i used was under 100lbs and put out around 135HP from the factory! It now puts out around 156 HP. My total bike weights alittle under 400lbs Which is not good if i had to do it over again i would build a atv frame that i could get lightweight parts for racing! Banshee seems to have the most aftermarket parts for drag racing! Just food for though! Good luck. TAKE YOUR TIME Thats the most important thing.

What about putting snomobile engines into an ATV?
I seen an article a long time ago where someone had put in a snomobile engine in..
Some of these newer Yamaha 4 strokes are getting over 300HP in a very light weight package, with a belt tranny and like 340 peak HP should make a quad scoot right along!

I've thought about the 600 conversion, but I ask myself about the tourque factor. I don't see enough differance in weight between the 600 and 1000 in most case's to make it to much of a factor. The snowmobile idea is interesting but, the belt to chain conversion thing seems like a big pain. The guy i talked to with the GSXR 1000 motor brought up the idea of running Methenal. Does anyone have any photos of the raptor conversions?

Not exactly sure what methenal is ......but what engine would you want to run methanol in? And it would be great if you feel like replacing parts often, and dealing with a huge pain in the *** fuel system, and as long as you dont plan to ride long its awesome. Methanol requires something like 20% more fuel by volume to make the same amount of power that gasoline does, so since it ends up making more power than gas, figure youre going to go through about 40-50% more fuel. (stoich for gasoline is 12.8:1 , methanol is ~8:1)
Meth also has little to no corrosion resistance, and it tends to wash the cylinder walls down even if you are perfect on air/fuel, so youll be rebuilding much more often.
Just a few tidbits on alcohol, its great if you NEED it, but its never worth it for anything less than all out race.
Oh and dont forget to stop drop and roll if you feel warm, cuz it burns clear, youll never see it.
