O.k., I've soaked and rinsed my K&N filter twice now and it still isn't white (this sounds like a bad comercial). Is it supposed to stay pink? How do I know when it's clean?

Scott yeh, it does sound like a bad commercial, but tru a can of Uni spray filter cleaner. Spray the foam inside & out, let it sit for 5 minutes and rinse it out in the kitchen sink. It's water soluble so cleaner, dirt,& sand go down the drain. No muss, no fuss & clean as a whistle (I've never seen a dirty whistle, tho).I run a Pro Design sytem on my Warrior and the filter is green & I've never used anything else on it. After it dries finish the job with some Maxima Fab spray on filter oil & your ride will breathe go-o-o-d again! It's so easy you'll think you did something wrong.

To all of my knowledge all of the K&N filters are red. The red is the oil and it lets you know if you have coated the whole filter.

Yeah, I'm with you Bryon. My K&N is pink/red too. Just make sure its not a dirty pink/red and you'll be all set.

Yes,
I have K&N's on all my vehicles, even my IH. (Uni on the Scrambler) Anyway the red is only a dye. You need K&N filter cleaner to get all the oil off. Let it air dry and coat it again with oil making sure there are no uncoated white spots. Don't go to heavy on the oil though, sometimes the carb can suck some off the filter if it super thick...

OK, here is the deal with me. After a sand dune trip, no amount of rinsing and cleaning would get the sand out of my wifes Blaster K&N. It had no Filterskin (duh). Anyway, I finally tied it into an old tee shirt and threw it in the washing machine regular cycle, warm water, with some Lestoil cleaner (stinky stuff)... Don't tell my wife. Bah, tell her, it is her quad! ...It came out almost white, absolutely not pink, and not a trace of sand.
Oil went on fine and it works, (I hope) what more can I say...

I just brought a used pro flow design plate and a used K&N filter for my Banshee. I could not find a dealer that stocked a new filter the day before the race. So I went to the local performance store and brought the recharge kit. I sprayed the K&N cleaner on the used (quite dirty, and red) filter. After the first wash it was white. It was a lot easier to clean the K&N than the old foam filter.

I was told that you must used the K&N cleaner for the K&N filter. So far the stuff has worked great.

phylzie, Hey, no offence but that t-shirt, washing machine idea was either a great practicle joke (and I'm a moron), or just a dumb idea. I tried it and my filter was toast! Good thing I bought two of 'em.
