Hey all,

I've got a Murray go cart frame that I put a '86 (I think) 160cc Kawi engine on, and have some questions...

We ran it all last summer with a makeshift fueltank, and I want a bettersetup.. Anybody have a good idea for a fuel cell?

I have been thinking about a 6" pvc tube with end caps, with that work?? Or will the gas eat the glue for the caps?? Also, would I need some kind of foam or baffle in it? I am currently using a vaccum fuelpump, so mounting position isn't really important... Thanks

Why not try using a small gas can. Just cut the neck off of the inside. It would be small, easy to mount, and easy to find.

Well, thats what I have now- a 2 1/2 gallon tank, but just looks REAL cheesy, it works, but is a little hard to keep put because of the tanks design..

WOW.. I'd say probably not.

Do you (or anybody) know if they sell "closed"cell foam? Like what they put in the fuel cells?

I think I would need something to keep the fuel from sloshing.

As it is now- we have to keep it filled up pretty good to keep it running well.. If not it seems to suck air

? possibly... I'll have to check one out, that could work.

The main problem I have with the current tank, is it really isn't mounted well. I imagine a lawnmower tank would have bolsters of some kind moulded in the plastic for bolts, right?....anyway, I welded up a "battery tray" like spot for it to sit, right above the left rear tire, just inside the framerail.., But, its a plastic moulded tank, and I haven't found a good way of securing it down yet. So far I ended up using a tie- strap to hold it in the tray- and it looks unfinished and cheesy.. I am hoping for a nicer looking setup..

Why not a small boat tank. That might work.

You said that you welded a battery tray down, are you good enough to just weld a tank together? You could use stainless or aluminum to keep it from rusting. When you get done welding it just buy some foam and ball it up and stick it in the hole you would put gas in. You could also make one channel in it lower than the rest of it and put your pick up in there, this would eliminate the need for foam.

I seriously doubt I am good enough to weld up an aluminum tank, maybe stainless, but I doubt it... I can gt a guy at work here to do it- but would that be worth the trouble? How would it be better that the big PVC tube idea?
