dont waste the money, buy a better sport quad if you want to go fast

 

I too was thinking the same.....we are bad! I was thinking only take with down hill tracks....

 

Geez, those last two replies have been very helpful. The 230 was a good bike in it's day. It can be built up well and if you sort out the chain problems can be very reliable. It will still run with todays 4 strokes of similar size.

It will for shizzle beat a stock 300EX (I raced one with just a pipe and a K&N filter), a 250EX (blowoff), a lokota 300, Z250, maybe a mojave (stock), amd right now im working on beating a 350 Warrior with the stuff i have just done, i just need some new tires. It will be competitive with a blaster.

I agree with this statement. It is simply too far behind the times and too low on cubes to ever be "fast" in today's company. A 350cc quad such as a Warrior from years ago could be updated, but the 230 was always mild, even by '80s standards. I used to run circles around them with my 350X back in the day, and I got to ride a 230 Quadsport for the first time recently, it would take a LOT to make them fast. Not really worth it IMO unless you just want to stick with that quad for nostalgia (nothing wrong with nostalgia btw).

 

that makes sense in a way, but its not like the guys gonna go, oh ok, let me go buy a raptor 700r or a zukiR450, most people have the quads they have and thats about it. you gotta work with what you got and have fun doing it, if your not having fun with what you have then its time to pick another hobby. anyone trying to chase the title of "fastest ______" better come with alot of money and alot of time, and wouldnt be here.

i know my quads not going to blow a quadzilla out of thewater, that doesnt change the fact that i have a blasty blast riding it, and it doesnt change the fun and good times ive put into building her up to what she is now.

 

its a bit pricey but.................buy a ducati 999 sports bike, put the engine in your frame, and you will go like s**t off a shovel!!!!!!

 

theres another thread, i think in this forum, where a guy stuck like a 250r engine in his 230 s, quite a nice idea, i also seen another post with a Lt500R engine in a Z400 frame, hte pics were mouth drooling awesome

 

dont mock the 230s... they can run damn good with mods! i modded one many years ago and it was very torqey (SP) and was an awesome hill climber. not like a raptor , but strong. the dirt bike guys would watch me go down into the bowl and shake there heads like i was screwed.... but i flew right up the hill and jumped off the top. ha ha the lowly quad sport huh i raced and beat 250xs,300exs, and blasters in drags too!! to the original poster... high compression piston,cam,pipe,open box will yield way more power. drop one tooth on front and you can climb most any hill you would do on a quad.....i did !!
