There's a small plastic plunger switch on the left brake control that controls the brake light and also allows power to the starter relay. The original switch has a thin plunger that can bend or break. Check this out first along with it's connections. If it needs replacing, several are on ebay. #0450836.Polaris Handlebar Sensor Switch Harness 01 06 Scrambler Sportman 0450836 | eBay Starter relays were another problem, but see if the switch is the problem first.

Thanks for the fast reply! Do these have a tail light when running or when the key is turned on? The bulb that is in there looks like it should be but I want to make sure.

Depends on what model you have. The first couple years I know (01,02) just had the brake light as a safety feature for people riding behind them. Can't remember what year the youth models had tail and brake lights also.

You are correct! It is that plunger. It looked like it just pulled out so I ended up pulling out the connectors out of the plunger spring assembly. So I crossed them and the brake light came on and it turned over with the starter button.

So yes I will order that plunger. But now what is the correct way to remove that so I can put the new one in when I get it?

Thanks!

Jess

You have to take a small pick or screw driver and push the projections in on the plunger body to release it from the brake assy. The new on just snaps in place in the cutouts.

Hello, I am new to this forum but after reading some posts above I have an issue that I did not see addressed ? I bought a used 2005 Polaris 90 for my grandson. It was running good when we bought it but after a day of riding it I had him wash it up and it has not ran since. I do have a clicking sound at the relay but nothing to the starter? I tried to run a jumper wire directly from the battery to the starter terminal but still nothing ? I was reading the posts above but no one mentioned if they had clicking at the relay. Does this mean that everything in the wiring at the starter switch and brake switch is ok and that the problem is between the relay and the starter ?
Thank you
Bill R.

If the relay is clicking it's either a relay problem or a starter problem.Check eith a test ligh if the starter wire is getting power. If not,the relay could be bad. If it's getting power to the starter wire, then the starter could be bad. Plus you said this started after it was washed? I'd pull the connections, blow every thing out and also move the starter wire back and forth. It may not have a good wire contact.Electrical components and connectors don't like water.
