2002 Polaris sportsman 6x6 500 transmission options
Hello Gents, first post.
I have an 02 sportsman 6x6 with transmission # 1341291. The transmission is bad.
I'm trying to locate a transmission that will swap in. It's hard to find 6x6 specific transmissions, however, I see that a 2000 and newer polaris 400 xplorer transmission looks identical to the 6x6. Shaft drive out the front and chain in the rear. Part #1341273.
Can some all knowing Gent let me know if I can use the 1341273 in my 6x6.
I have spoken to numerous Polaris dealers and they can not tell me for certain because the part numbers are different.
Any help is much appreciated.
Thank you

Very similar in that even the sub shaft going to the front prop shaft uses the same part #. Gear position switches look to be the same also. Possible mounting may be a bit different, but shouldn't be that big of a problem as well as adjusting the shift linkages to compensate for any differences in mounting. Is yours beyond repair? May be able to repair unless the cases are broken. Plus here's the models that do share your same transmission in case you might be able to run across one.

Thank you for getting back to me. I believe at least one half of the case is ruined. The out put shaft for the chain drive is flopping around and the teeth on the front sprocket are busted. I haven't pulled it out yet but, I'm trying to get it going as quick as possible. I figured finding another transmission would be the fastest way.
Thank you for looking into it for me.

That's the chance you'd have to take when using a gear case from another machine.. That's why I mentioned that there might be mounting differences along with linkage adjustments on doing this. If really in doubt, use the list I posted above on machines that did share the same gear case and keep a look out for one of those.

Thank you again Old Polaris Tech. I pulled it out and apart this weekend. The countershaft bearing and seal were the only things damaged in the transmission! The bearings and broken bearing cage were all sitting against the magnet. Everything else in the transmission looks great!
Anyone have a service manual for a 2002 sportsman 6x6? I'm going to order the bearing and seal then throw this thing back together.
Thanks
