2006 SP 4wd none in reverse

So I have a 2006 sportsman 800, everything is working great on it, except I tried to use the 4x4 in reverse and it shuts off, the light in the pod and nothing to the tires, shift back into H and the light turns back on and 4x4 works again, no looking through forums to see if others have had this problem and cant seem to find anything, so I am asking for a bit of help, did find a thread that said the battery will do it if it is low on charge, well i have had no trouble with the battery for the last couple months. So any help would be great. TY all

Welcome to the forum! Sounds like you could have a direct short in the left control switch wiring or possibly in the switch itself? You can try to trace the wiring from the plug end connectors from the switch going into the pod area and see if you find any bare wire that could be the problem. Plus check the wires coming from the front gear case up. OPT

Think I misunderstood you in saying in reverse the machine shut off/ Think you were saying just the awd light and no awd in reverse. If this is the case a malfunctioning gear position switch on the transmission could cause problems also,as they do go out or will register wrong.Usually the problems they cause is limiting speed if switch is stuck in reverse. Plus again I would trace the front gear case wires up into the pod area and also the awd switch wires into the pod area. This area is a common place for shorts as the main harness along with other connections are there and are subject to a lot of twisting and turning. OPT

welcome to the forum. as if i understand you, it does sound as you have maybe a short in the tranny switch as when you shift into reverse you loose power maybe from a dead short. as mentioned chase wires to see if bare or pinched wire.:)
