2006 Sportsman 500 HO - Starting Problems
ok, this 4x4x has not been started in over a year and I don't know what the initial Problem was with it.
What I have done so far. Replaced the CDI Replaced the ECM Replaced the Ignition Coil Replaced the Carburetor Cleaned Fuel Tank and Replaced With Fresh Fuel Adjusted Valves to .006in Replaced Spark Plug Check for Spark - Good Changed Oil and Filter Changed Front Diff Oil Changed Rear Diff Oil Replaced Inline Fuel Filter I will crank over, but will not start. After about 3 hours of messing with it, got it started using starter fluid and ir ran while holding Throttle half way for about 1 min. when i let go of the throttle is died and have not been able to get it started again. I have a little smoke and oil coming from the the engine breather filter hose at the Air Box. The only think i can think of is I have a internal Engine problem. |
Actually, that sounds like fuel isn't feeding. Did you check to make sure the fuel flows? (There's usually a switch that lets you choose RES, OFF, ON)
OR Maybe the bendix? |
yes, fuel is flowing
|
Check the bendix then.
|
if your talking about the starter, the starter and starter drive works just fine.

A bendix is what the Starter Drive turn to make it pop out and turn the main one. (Big circle with teeth) From your view, it tries to turn over? Like a clunking sound, sorta? Can you explain a bit better? |
no, it turns over just fine, starter engages and engine turns over, just wont start. Sounds like its not getting fuel, but is getting fuel.
i was thinking it might be the ignition timing, but it started once and sounded fine. |
Look at the timing chain.
|
When I did the valves, i checked the timing
|
hmm.... Well, that's all i could think of.
Probably have already, but did you try it manually? (Starting it) |
