ok i installed the pickup coil for the 89 in the 87 with the 87fly wheel and i think the stock 1987 cdi i have great spark, butt it wont start it is firing way to soon, i moved the stator plate trying to adjust timing all the way <-a r -> advanced it will back fire( i about broke my wrist with the pull start ) so ill try and find a cdi for that picup coil or whatever its called any advise would be great thanks

I've never swapped models around, but check that all connections work on the 89 to the 87 before you install the stator(some wiring maybe different) but also can't guarantee even if it hooks up it will work, but worth a shot! Timing may be different a little between the two on the cdi more so than the stator plate! OPT

Hopefully the harness will match up if you ordered direct replacement ignition components for the 87 even if they have been updated. OPT

The stator plate has a mark that lines up with the mark on the case for timing(at least the later models do) IF you haven't remove the complete plate then timing will still be correct! OR if you did remove the plate and there were NO marks to line up you should have made a punch mark on the plate and case for easy line up. Good luck OPT

the stator plate was bought from ebay. Iit has 2 lines and 2 dots near the rear screw that holds the plate to the crank case. The claymor book said to line up the screw with (line) on the plate? .so i am close ill put a timing light on it today and see where im at but i have no clue what rpm i am at im trying to find a strob rpm meter or somethig like that

The idle rpm on the old 250 engine should be around 700-900 rpms. They don't idle to high. OPT
