Why do you need to replace the carb?? Unless the carb is totally trashed out,if you can't repair it just have the main wear items, needle valve assembly, float arm and pin, main and pilot jets if necessary for your model and let a shop rebuild it.Way cheaper than buying a new carb. OPT

i found out that my cousin worked for polaris. he has worked on small engines most of his life and is an off roader like myself. i took the quad to him since i could not get the adjustments right. a rebuild kit was installed. he noticed that the pilot jet was factory spec but a hair larger than what it should be. he mentioned that it shouldn't be an issue but the carb is still letting in too much fuel which is causing the loading. he suggested that something must be wrong with the carb itself. carb only has a 100 hours on it.

that's exactly what my jet looks like. is it possible to go down one size to reduce the fuel coming in? i've heard of people changing the jet sizes. i even have a stage 1 jet upgrade i wanted to install after the atv was running right but my cousin recommended not to unless i upgraded the exhaust and intake. i have a stage 1 jet kit in my 98" 900RR honda with just a canster swap and it does fine. trying to correct a jet is alot cheaper than a new carb espcially since i can't find a replacement for the mikuni bst 34mm. was on the mikuni website and it looks like the VM style took it's place. still a few hundred cheaper than the bst.

Drop the carb slide needle before you change any jets. Just raise the clip a couple positions which lowers the needle and see if the carb response is better. Might better get this carb right before any thoughts of jet kits. OPT

If it's getting fuel it's usually not the pump but problems still with the carb. Plus what position do you have the slide needle on now? If you or your cousin can't figure this out, might be time to find a good mechanic, plus I don't remember if I've told you to look at the carb intake manifold for any cracks or splits under the carb clamp? Very easy to miss if you don't take the clamp off.. OPT
