I just acquired a '96 Xplorer 400 from my dad. It probably hasn't run in at least 5-6 years and I thought I'd have a go at it and see what kind of damage I could do. The battery's dead but I was able to get it started with the pull cord. I replaced the gas, checked the oil, filled the coolant, and cleaned a bunch of gunky jelly out of the brake fluid reservoir and refilled it with fresh brake fluid. I also made the mistake of turning on the lights when it was running and blew every bulb in the darn thing!!! It seems to run fine except when I put it under much of a load. It bogs way down and loses power. I put some carb cleaner in the gas in case the carb's just a little gummy. I'm also planning on buying a new battery if this one doesn't charge for me. Any ideas as to what might be causing this? Thanks.

Welcome! You're going to have to remove the carb and thoroughly clean it,make sure the main and pilot jet are clear, and replace the needle and seat since it's been sitting 5 to 6 years with fuel in it! Dump the gas and put in fresh gas. Get a new battery!The old one won't ever hold a charge after this long! You will blow bulbs out every time on a dead battery!!! I would take time to go from front to back on a machine that's been sitting 5-6 years and do a full service from gear case fluid to adjusting, lubing chains,new plug,air filter if needed,etc. http://www.mooseutilities.com/produc...&mk=37&md=1138 OPT
