Previously got stuck in waist deep water, twice, with mud.
Started up just fine after i was winched out.

Came home and cleaned off all the mud.


And now my Sportsman 600 wont shift into HIGH.

Itll shift into other gears just fine, and idles at normal.


Any ideas??

 

Well, figured something out.
Since it was submerged, the shifter goes to a sensor called "ITW SWITCHES" 40-600010.


I cannot find this part anywhere......

 

This is the gear position switch mounted on the transmission. They can break internally and show wrong gear position,but shouldn't have anything to do with the shifting. Make sure the spring on the back end of the brake pedal is pulling the lockout detent on the gear case down so it can shift into hi and park. Item#59 is the lockout detent plunger,#68 is the gear position(rotary switch) Pull the connector on the switch and clean the contacts plus inspect the switch for any cracks in the plastic housing.

 

Just curious...Does it go into "park"?

it does.

Also noticed when i gas it, it takes a few trys to get it to go or "catch"
But this is at cold start

 

If it goes into park,but not high could be problems in the outer shift mechanism gears. This really needs a manual as you do need to have the shift gears line up with certain marks. Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Honda, Arctic Cat & Polaris OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse
Mainly includes items 4 and 5 and 62 through 64. This transmission was also used on the Ranger and we did have problems with the shift mechanisms on them also. Hope this is all it is and not internal.

Glad it was the tranny switch and not internal,though $52 is a chunk of change for a plastic gear position switch. When you first said it wouldn't shift into high,did you mean it wouldn't physically shift or was it that it wasn't able to show high range on the speedo?I had plenty of problems like that when the switch went out.
