Default screw missing from strut, leaked fluid?

hi guys i noticed this screw missing from the left strut on my 96 scrambler. and judging from the mess of the area i assume that whatever fluid was in there drained out. my question is, can i just put some lube in there and put in a new bolt. and if so what kind of lube. thanks for any insight

If there's a screw in the strut it's because someone added one/altered the strut cartridge?? The normal strut cartridge just slips in the strut housing and is held in place by the two bolts and nuts. The strut is gas charged and if it leaks, it's out of the strut cap seal at the top. OPT

What is the red sleeve? A spacer? This strut has been altered compared to a stock one.. OPT

I'd go from front to back on this machine and change the trans fluid( Polaris Agl) counter balancer (Holds 75 ccs of 30wt or 10w30 oil) front hubs (Polaris Demand Drive fluid ONLY) and adjust and lube all the chains.Plus there are numerous grease fittings. Plus sounds like you need to replace the strut cartridges if both sides are leaking(best to change in pairs anyway) You can either go stock, plus there are several after market strut cartridges are available. Cycle Parts Warehouse along with Ebay are a good source of parts.

That sleeve with the screws in it looks like an EMT connector (for joining thin walled steel electrical conduit together). Kind of a ghetto spring spacer I'm guessing.
