Stator Assembly - 2008 Sportsman EFI
so I had a dealer diagnose my poor idling and non-start issues. He has said its a bad crank position sensor. He is also telling me he cant get ONLY the sensor, that he needs to order and install the entire stator assembly. I looked online and I see that I can in fact order only the sensor. He said that he would have to cut the shaft if he did in fact have only the sensor. I actually trust this guy, as he has been upfront with me the entire time. Is this true? is it possible to just install the sensor alone or will I need to have the whole assembly replaced.
If I do in fact need to replace the entire assembly, is it safe to go with an aftermarket brand? the difference is about $300!
thanks for the help.

If it's a 500 efi the resistance on the crank sensor should be 185 ohms. If a 700 or 800 the resistance should be around 560 ohms (both readings allow + or - 10%) The sensors are available separately. I think the dealer needs to read the manuals. Don't try after market efi componets (if available)use the oem parts!! OPT
