2004 sportsman 500 charging issue

You're probably confusing the CDI with an ECM module that takes the place of a regulator/rectifier on some of the 2004 models. Look at the link that Yooper265 posted on a regulator. If you have the regulator equipped model,it will be located down close to the radiator. Most of the time it's a regulator problem on charging, not stators.Plus connectors are bad on these regulators about coming loose from vibration.

You have the UPDATED ecm module already in place of the Black finned Chinese ecm,but these can fail also. I've replaced several of these silver Sure Power modules on the same atvs..Same as several members have had to do. Won't help calling the dealer on this as it's out of your pocket now. They only allowed a one time replacement. I've only been able to have a second one warrantied only because it failed within a 3 month period and I talked to Polaris about it. Sucks I know.. You might try to, clean up the connector and use some niogel grease to see if that helps.. This module contains the main circuit breakers, battery protection circuit, fan control along with controlling charging.Too many functions imo..

Well apparently I didn't read my multimeter right the first time I checked the stator. I got .7 ohm with all three combos on the yellow wires. Thing still won't even pull start or run without hooked to my KQ I even swapped in the battery from my kq and still only shows 12ish volts. I checked and cleaned all the grounds and connections everything appears fine. Should I tell my buddy to go ahead and bite the bullet and order a new ecm?
