Carb or efi? Gotta be specific nowdays... If it's carb model does it have the Ducati ignition or later in the year model Kokuasan ignition? Pop the front panel and look at the cdi. It will show the name on the cdi, plus Ducati had the cdi and coil together. Kokusan has a separate cdi and coil.
If it's an efi machine, first area I'd check is the fuses, power to the relays and the fuse block wiring itself. Pins in the block can corrode, pull out causing problems.

Try simple things first like check connections, ground wires as the Kokusan was pretty reliable for the most part. Pull the black wire from the cdi and see if it has spark then. If it does, then the problem could be in the left control switch or ignition switch.Plus work the on/off emergency kill switch back and forth as they can corrode and cause problems over time. If none off this helps then best to go through the trouble shooting guides and resistance specs from the manual rather than pulling your hair out or throwing parts at it.2004 Polaris Sportsman 700 Service Manual PDF Download

That's why I said download the cheap 5 buck manual that can at least give you the stator checks and the coil primary and secondary resistance readings. Cdi doesn't have a good check. Purpose of checking out the stator and coil is to verify that they're good or not,if they are then you can suspect a cdi if all other checks have been done also. Don't just throw parts at one.
