So suffice it to say the Rubicon is not 10" either, then?

Glenn.

Well,
I just went out and measured under the rear end of my Magnum 500 with 27" Tri-Claw Magnums...
Under the REAR DIFFERENTIAL SKIDPLATE because THATS the LOWEST POINT ON THE REAR END!. NOt the Housing, the SKIDPLATE.
Its 8 1/2 inches.... Doesn't sound like much huh?.. Thats the weak spot on ANY conventional axle machine when in the mud.... Thats why the Sportsman is a little better in the mud!.
Under the floorboard, I measured 13 1/2 inches without a lift, and with the rear shock dialed down to its second lowest setting..
I SERIOUSLY DOubt that a Honda will come up with those numbers with stock tires and suspension.

OH MAN.. I AM SO glad you have set me straight there.. I was beginning to think that somebody BESIDES your Honda that could be reliable.. I am so glad you set me straight.. I jsut got thru setting my Polarises a fire in the front yard, along with a Yamaha and an MTD yard tractor.. I will be heading to HONDA in the morning... Should I walk, rather than take my g/f Dodge... ya know... maybe I should BURN it too, and go get a freakin Accord..
I am SO fortunate that you blessed me with your vast insight on my brand choices' extreme failures..
Your check is in the MAIL!!....

Mudmachine, my Rancher has 7 15/16" Ground clearance with the stock 24" tires. That is measured under the rear housing skid plate. Now if I were to put 25" tires on it, which by the way are the stock dia. for your Magnum, I would have 8 7/16" ground clearance. Thats only 1/16 less than your machine with 27" tires. A Rancher with 27" tires should have 9 7/16" GC. These numbers should be simular to the Rubicon, as I believe it will employ the same rear housing. The Rubicon comes with 25" tires, so my guess is it will have 8 7/16 GC stock. Still a doubter?

Bob, do you know what the GC is under the front end of your ATV? Just wondering, because that is the low-point on my "old" 300 and wondered if the front and rear is the same height on the Rancher, or if everyone is now measuring at the hitch in the rear?

Yes still a doubter.

Sorry Bob, but your wrong on your GC increases with larger tires. An inch taller tire gives you 1/2" more GC under the rear diff.

Glenn.

Ok, I WAS measuring in the front yard.... so my measurments might NOT be the most accurate...
BUT,
When you add an inch taller tire.. you DONT gain an inch.. you only gain about 1/2 inch... Its called RADIUS... (from center point of tire...aka axle to the outside of the tire in ONE direction)
As for your measurments... if thats true, then great... and if its true, then my friend with his 450S can't complain that its the extra ground clearance I have getting me thru the same mudhole HE has to get pulled thru.
BTW... what are you high end Honda guys doin hanging out in a Polaris Thread anyway?.. Just feeling like you need to slum a little?

I just don't understand why all the fuss about the RUBY,If it happens to be a better machine more ground clearance or better tranny. We(the consumer) are going to win in the long run,as all the other manufactors will have to up grade to keep up.The HONDA guy's deserve a bigger meaner QUAD and I hope this fits the bill for them,I really enjoy my big ole 500SP and I think there are some of them that will like the big feel to. Glenns and mudmachine, I'm not going to argue with you, but the last time I checked 7 15/16" plus 1/2" equals 8 7/16". Go back and read my post more slowly, my arithmetic is correct. Of course 1" in tire diameter equals 1/2" increase in GC, again reread my post, thats exactly what I said. Slumming, please boys don't flatter your selves. TxDoc, The Ranchers front end ground clearance is 9 5/8" at the lowest point, which is the bash plate under the front differential. Hope that helps.
