i have a 40-36 helix and 10-58 weights what primary and secondary spring would you reccomend?


i am currently running the red/yellow main and violet secondary i am not getting as much top end as i want with this setup any ideas?

Sounds like a good set-up to me. What holes are the secondary in and what mods do you have??

not sure on the holes on secondary what difference does it make? my mods are listed below my name

The holes control the amount of preload (spring tension)on the secondary. The more preload the slower the upshift and quicker the backshift. Obviously, the opposite is also true. However, the preload must be kept within certain limits to maintain proper pressure on the belt. The service manual should have a range in pounds and info on how to check. I hope no one is offended by this next statement, but the first thing you should buy before you start ANY mods, is the factory service manual.

Scrambler, I forgot to mention to you that too much secondary spring pressure will rob top end, but usually not too much. Go to Wal-Mart or K-Mart,etc. and buy a $3 fish scale hook. Remove the secondary clutch and hook the one end of the fish scale on the inside clutch halve on top of one of the balance holes. Pull on the scale evenly and slowly just until the sheave starts moving or opening up. The inside half will rotate clockwise standing with the clutch in front of you. That will be your initial pressure. For trail mod I would be around 11 lbs. You can go down to about 9 with the violet secondary, but I wouldnt go much above 12 or 13 or else efficiency and performance will drop and top end will suffer some. The 58 weights will overcome a lot of pressure, but I would try and keep it from 9-11 if possible. Hope this helps,Bubba

the scale thing sounds kind of complicated


which holes should i put the spring in helix (1,2) clutch (1,2,3)?

I think alot of people run the 1-1 combination with that set-up. The next stiffest would be 2-2. The fish scale is not hard to do and would be the most accurate way to check it.

you said the holes adjust the amount of preload which number combinatins for example would be stiffer preload 1,1 or 2,3?

1-3 Softest
