Difficult Shifting (425 Expedition)?

Sometimes (actually a lot lately) whenever I down/up shift from a slow speed or stopped position my 425 won't immediatly go in gear. It usually takes a tap on the gas an then it locks into gear. Could it be that my clutch is adj. to tight, which is holding the gear release to hard or what? I had a problem when I first got my 425 with it slipping out of gear on it's own (it still gets caught between gears a lot but I'm sure that is normal with the long through of the shift) and I had the Polaris Dealer look at it and fix it. They did a clutch adj. and it pretty much fixed that problem but I'm not sure if this is affecting my gear shifting now?

Ever since the dealer fixed the clutch it has always been more difficult to shift (very tight feeling) but it doesn't come out of gear anymore either. Anyone have any ideas? Should I try and adjust the shifter, so it will be easier to shift or can that effect the adjustment on the clutch? I don't want it to start sliping out of gear again but I have always heard the 425 were very SMOOTH shifting but my never has been and now it's become difficult to shift without a good nudge on the shifter or an extra tap on the gas.

One more completely different question. When I run on uneven ground, bumps, ruts etc. it always feels like my frame & motor shift around alot. Is this normal? Basically it feels like the bottom of the 4-wheeler (axle, motor, frame etc.) is moving back and forth etc. I was just curious if this was normal.

Thanks everyone for all the help!

Difficult Shifting (425 Expedition)?

Sounds like the clutch is adjusted to tight. When the clutch is adjusted right the bike does shift very smooth. When it is right you can "slam" through the gears with no problems.

I thought it might be the clutch. As for the recall, I have already taken care of that.

Thanks for the help!!

I'm having the same exact problem but after driving it for awhile not knowing that you could adjust the shifter something finally broke and now it doesn't move period. Starts and runs great but won't move. Would that be the clutch then from running it so long without adjusting it correctly??

If something broke, then yes could be in the clutches or the shift mechanism. Here's a cheap manual that can help. Doesn't matter what year as all the Xpeditions were the same.2002 Polaris Xpedition 425 Service Manual PDF Download
