Default help changing c/v boot

my front c/v boot has a rip and im looking for some advice on how to go about changing it, i had a look at a service manual for the older polarisis (pre 95) mines 98. and it said u had to open up the hub and undo the 4wd assembly inside of it. but i've also heard u can just pull the joint free of the differential somehow and not touch the hub, if i do it this way im curious as to how i release the boot as the big clamp (clamp on large end of boot) seems to be set inside the strut casting. how do i release and replace this. if i cant even see it! i guess it would come out if i did open u p the hub and release the joint? if anyone that can give me some advice or can scan in the repair manual pages on this topic. it would be greatly appreciated
thanks

Sinceyour boot is already ripped you can just kinda go at it w/wire cutters to get the band off. To avoid taking the hub apart, you can loosen the shock mount, and take off the A-arm where it is attached to the strut. This allows play for the shaft to be pulled out of the slip ring. A little love tap the to differential will pop it over the snap ring and then this allows the shaft to be pulled down and you place your new boot on. This is how I did it on my scrambler, but i am pretty sure they are the same set up. I really hope this helps. And if anyone reads this and sees i am wrong, please correct.

I followed how my manual said to do it. I have had my hub apart at least half a dozen times so I can take it apart in mere minutes, no big deal. hint: the hub cap screws are torx bit, not allen. I learned that the hard way. Anyway, I removed the brake, took off the hubs, disconected the ball joint from the a-arm and then you can twist the strut housing and remove the cv joint from the strut housing.
i don't remember for sure, but I think that the boot can slide right off. The polaris cv boot kit should come with the new bands, boot, and 30g of grease. You can go to Autozone and rent CV boot clamp pliers for free, just a $10 deposit. Makes putting the clamps on WAY easier.

This thread from another forum should give you some more insight. It is for a scrambler, but a scra, ble and sportsman practilcaly have the same front end.

The manual is about $55. If you plan on doing any of the work yourself GET ONE!!!! It is more than worth it. And get the Polaris one, not the cheapo other ones. As far as the cv joint, I did mine by taking off the hub. I haven't tried the other ways, but if you think you can do it then go for it
