4x4 and Speedo don't work - SP 335
My friend just bought a 2000 Sportsman 335 in which the 4WD and the speedometer does not work. I just read this could be solved by replacing the speedo but don't want to spend $200 to find out if that is the fix. Is there anyway of testing it? Or if anyone else has any ideas.... (BTW all the bulbs are bad) If someone could send me a wiring diagram that may help too.
Please email me here.

The Fan can be checked easily by seeing if someone has overridden the switch just look at the wiring that should comes from the temperature sensor. I forget on the air cooled where it is located exactley.
If the speedo is the electronic speedo then odds are that you have a hall effect sensor bad at the right front wheel. Note this will also keep the all wheel drive from engaging if the speedo is not working.
Dang I hate not remembering what is on a particular model but do hope this information helps you..

After doing further research online and talking with a couple of Polaris service techs my conclusions are:
The voltage regulator went bad which fried all the bulbs along with the speedometer unit. Since the speedometer unit is fried (which most electonics run through/ or is controled by the unit) this is causing the 4wd not to work along with the fan defaulting to on.
The battery is only getting about 8 volts when running....if I disconnect the battery voltage is at about 12V at idle but can spike to 25 volts at high RPM's....this can do some damage! So I belive the charging system is working but the bad regulator is causing the battery not to charge.
These are all just speculation until the new parts come in but any more thoughts on this are appreciated.
