Default top speed varies?...sp700

my buddy and i both have the same problem, my 03 and his 04 sp700's will do 50 on one run down the road then 60 on the way back. sometimes i blow by him, sometimes he goes past me. why the inconsistencies? both machines used to do 60+ (on the speedo). now neither will. both have about 500 miles on them.

Thanks for the constructive input Suzuki4ever, it sure helps. Yooper, you might want to check the nylon locknut on the primary clutch. It may have backed off, limiting your top speed.

suzuki4ever... the 6 and 7 hundo twins are not Fuji motors, they were designed and built in America. The single poppers are still Fuji motors.

you might also want to inspect your belts, and make sure the sheave's are clean, make the the tire pressure is the same on both machine's.
Try taking a set distance, say, between two road signs about 300 yrds apart and have one guy ride both and the other signal start, and I think you'd find more consistancy in your runs. A clutch kit will make a world of diffrence on the 700 too.

we both have a clutch kit installed. i guess the big thing is even when riding by myself, i can make a run down a road and only hit 50, ten minutes later(or whatever) i can make the same run and hit 60. same thing with my buddies 700. why wouldn't it be the same or at least close?

It's worth inspecting the clutch assembly, a loose nut wouldn't allow the sheave's to close and the engine would scream, to get the symptoms your describing though it would need to back itself off and then tighten. There must be something else going on, what are the symptoms? is the engine bogging or slugish, getting up to speed? or does it miss at high rpms?

This is a little strange, more info would be helpful.... I have a 300 yd run in front of my house I use for testing when I do clutch mods and my 600 is consistant run to run as you would expect.
