SP500 Broken CV's??

I've got an '02 SP500 here with 27" Outlaws and wheel spacers. We just recently replaced both front axles and now both of the rear axles are busted in the outboard CV's.

Has anyone else had this problem? and is it due to the tires, wheel spacers, or a combination of both??

What about the Gorilla replacement axles or replacement CV's? - is anyone using them?, and how do they hold up??

Try Rockford Constant Velocity at 1-800-728-7237 They make heavy duty CV's. I have them on my Vinson and there alot bigger than stock. $239.00 ea. compared to $395.00 ea. from Gorilla. I think Gorilla get there parts from Rockford.

Quadwrench,

What condition were the CV boots in prior to replacement? The local dealer here in SC told me that Polaris has had a few issues with the boots failing from continous high-speed travel. They had a SP700 that was 6 months old that needed all new CV boots. They asked the customer about what he had been doing with the quad during that time frame and he stated the quad was used in the construction of a golf course. As soon as he was on the bike, it was top speed until the next stop. Apparently, the joints were heating up and the boots were failing from the heat. Polaris replaced all joints under warrantee. I don't know if this helps, but goodluck and keep wrenching.

Greg

P.S. Do you ever find it more enjoyable to work on the quads than ride them? Maybe I'm just a little strange

I think I'll give Rockford a call - funny thing because I was looking at the Highlifter Outlaw CV Axles and the Gorilla's - the whole time thinking how much they looked like each other......hhhmmmm - all it takes is printing a new sticker......maybe a different coat of paint....

The CV boots are in perfect condition - the shaft is actually turning inside the boot.

And, most of the time I find it as enjoyable to work on them as it is to ride 'em - although there have been the times I was looking for the dynamite to end the unusually stubborn jobs. The most enjoyable part of working on them (next to getting paid for the work ), is getting to "try out" all the different makes and models.

Both Gorilla and Highlifter claim 1 year warranty on the HD axles.
