kit to turn on all 3 light's on, on a 04 sportsman

i just installed one of those kits so that both low beam and high beam light's are on w/ switched to high beams. sweet/ easy install, works great.
but knowing me i cant do anything with out first understanding how it's built and how it works.
all that is in that kit is a rectifier from radio shack. i payed $8.99 for the kit on e-bay, when the part is just 75 cents. this weekend i'm going to do all my buddys light's for them.

Hey Wrench,

Would you be willing to send me some pics and info on that. I'd rather spend 7 extra bucks on some cold ones!

Thanks---Jon

Through a bunch of trial and error, hair pulling and beer, I finally figured out the lighting fiasco on the new 700. Gone is the relay with wires going everywhere, now, one diode wired between the yellow hibeam and green lo beam. Done, nice and easy too

I dont have any pic's but the radio shack part/ catalog # 276-1661 they come in a pack of 4 for $2.66
you just butt connecter 2 wire's on the ends then seal the connectors with sealer or heat shrink.
your looking for the yellow and green wire's coming from the headlight switch UNDER the top of the headlight pod ( youll have to splice in to the wire loom to find the wires)
the rectifier diode will only work one way, on mine the green wire goes to the end with the gray stripe, the black end goes to the yellow wire. there is a possabilty of wiring it backwards!!!
try it if it dont work the just reverse it. just get the connecters that tap in to the wires, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO CUT ANYTHING!

You can also get the kits at Montana Jacks online, little more money but all the parts are there and directions. 19.99 and i put it on my 02 500.

Anybody else try this method using the diode?? I tried wiring in the relay and I think Polaris might have changed some of the wiring on the 2004.5. I was told to use the red and brown wires for the cigarette lighter but my wires are orange and brown and the orange wire is always hot (on). Didn't seem like it was going to work very well so I just left it alone. Would like to try the diode but don't want any major problems.

I've used this 10A diode method on both a 04.5 700 carb and an 04.5 700 EFI and it works out very well. It's all a matter of current flow from the pod light (yellow wire), down to the low beams on the front end (green wire). I'm sure you can trace these wires back up to the switch, but I just ran from the green under the hood to the yellow on the back of the pod light socket. Very simple mod. TWO thumbs up!!

I just hooked up my rectifier diode and it seems to work great and was alot easier and alot less of a mess than using a relay. Thanx
