It is harder to get the tranny out and back in than it is to replace the case.It will run you around $250 if you do the work yourself depending on what is wore out inside the tranny it could go higher. But thats about what it took to fix our TB along with new chain and sprockets.

Had this happen on my xplorer last year.I was doing 3 mph when it happened.Luckily it popped a hole in the case about the size of a walnut. The piece was 95% intact laying inside my trans .I just took the tranny out and took it to a welding shop. They put the popped piece back in place and welded away.I had to buy new seals for the tranny while it was out. After welding,Ive noticed no abnormalties and has yet given me any problems.Cheaper than a case half.Scott.

Thanks guys. I put some CRC epoxy into the crack and put silicone around the edges. took it on a pounding and it seemed to drip a couple of drops. the trans rh cover is 230 bucks my Pol. mec said it is about a $ 500.00 job to take it out and replace cover. New trans is $990.00 I never take it to the shop unless I need spacialty tools I dont have. If I have to pull the tranny the engine is going with it and the head is off for some poting and mill action. FredBear how do you lke your eng. mods and did the fox struts seem any better than the orig. whn new?

The porting is awsome.Torque you wouldnt believe.Change to a wiseco piston and youll be happy. The struts, along with hd springs, were used because of the added weight of the bumpers and winch.I know its a utility quad, but I still cant break myself of jumping things. The fox struts were pricey but the factory struts never allowed me to do what I do.The ride is a little firm without the weight up front, but overall I really like the fox struts.AScott.

I know what you mean about Jumping. I grew up in the 80's with 250r-3wheel and Quad 500s. Rm250 and about 10 others. When i tried out the 2000 models the exp400 wheelied and had more hp and was 100 lbs lighter than the sp500. I want a new one but keep waiting for some power to weight ratio from Pol. in the utility area. I am going to buy whatever the best thing is this year from them it's been long enough, but I'm always keeping my 400.and am thinking of moding it as hard as possible without the free air filter. Have always wondered about the fox as I love them on my sleds. what about the rear shock?Front flat bumper and 2000 warn on front. K&N .Had epi clutch kit on my other expl. 400-was'nt impressed , hav'nt bottomed the front hard. did the hd frnt springs help?

Im still running my factory spring on my rear shock. After switching to the hd springs and fox struts up front,I couldnt dream of the ride if the rear were stiffened also.As for the hd springs,I changed springs and struts at the same time.I couldnt tell you what just the hd springs would do.Scott.
